Why this list exists
The real comparison starts after the first bin of ice.
Countertop nugget ice makers recirculate water and live in a warm, wet environment. Output matters, but so do ventilation clearance, cleaning frequency, descaling supplies, filter compatibility and whether the exact model is current or legacy.
This shortlist therefore treats upkeep as a buying criterion instead of a footnote. It also preserves exact suffixes: a filter or side-tank claim from one Opal does not automatically apply to every Opal listing.

Use conditioned output numbers
Daily output is a laboratory-style maximum that changes with room and water temperature. GE publishes up to 38 pounds per day for the XPIO13SWSS under a specified 70°F air/60°F water condition; Frigidaire publishes up to 44 pounds without making that the whole decision.
Measure ventilation, not just the cabinet
GE publishes four inches at the sides and rear for the XPIO13SWSS. The Frigidaire manual calls for at least six inches around the EFIC255. A nominally narrow machine can need a wider real footprint.
Treat filters and descaling separately
The Opal Ultra includes a scale-inhibiting filter with an approximate three-month replacement interval. That reduces scale formation; it does not eliminate cleaning or descaling.

Pass if
