Best Air-Fryer Microwave Combos: One Appliance or Two Compromises?
Four exact-model candidates, the performance compromises a feature list hides, and who should keep a separate microwave and air fryer.

Add a combo only when counter space is the binding constraint and you will use combination cooking. Panasonic is the connected balanced candidate; Toshiba is the value candidate; GE is the compact current alternative; Breville earns consideration for controls. Pass and keep two appliances when crisping performance or simultaneous cooking matters more than space.
The buyer question
Can one combo replace both appliances without giving up microwave speed, usable air-frying area or an understandable daily workflow?
Microwave-air-fryer combos are not automatically two full appliances in one box. The air-fry tray, turntable, preheating behavior and accessory swaps decide whether the second function saves time or merely saves counter width.
Current independent testing shows real differences in microwave speed, sensor behavior and crisping. We therefore treat every model as an add-if candidate, not as a universal replacement for a strong basket air fryer.
How to decide
The evidence the category has to earn.
Judge the air-fry surface
Cavity volume does not reveal how much food fits in one crisping layer. Check the included tray and required rack position.
Count accessory handling
A rack, enamel tray, crisping pan and glass turntable need somewhere to go when they are not in use.
Separate microwave output from input
Manufacturer wattage blocks can mix microwave output with total appliance draw. Compare like with like.
Require exact-model testing
A newer connected revision or a retailer suffix is not automatically evidence for the older model.

4 candidates, each with a reason to add—or pass.

Panasonic HomeCHEF Connect 4-in-1
NN-CV87QSThe current 1.2-cu-ft inverter model combines microwave, air fry, convection and broil with app-supported programs.
Add this if
- You want inverter microwaving and a broad set of oven modes.
- You can store the basket, enamel tray and wire rack.
Pass if
- You expect a basket air fryer's compact workflow.
- The required ventilation space does not fit the counter.

Toshiba 8-in-1 Air Fryer Combo
ML2-EC10SA(BS)A smaller one-cubic-foot format with microwave, convection, broil, combination and low-temperature functions.
Add this if
- Budget and a smaller exterior matter most.
- You accept a function-heavy control panel and manual-led setup.
Pass if
- You want a simpler dedicated appliance workflow.
- You want independently verified sensor-cooking performance.

GE 4-in-1 Countertop Microwave
GCST10A1WSSGE's current one-cubic-foot convection microwave adds air-fry and broil modes in a compact countertop format.
Add this if
- Simple front-panel presets matter more than premium controls.
- A compact one-cubic-foot cavity fits your cookware.
Pass if
- You need inverter microwave power.
- A larger air-fry surface is the priority.

Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1
BMO870BSS1BUC1A premium 1.1-cu-ft inverter model with Fast Combi, Cook From Frozen, soft-close door and a dedicated crisping pan.
Add this if

Ownership friction
The details that survive checkout.
The appliance does not remove accessory storage
Measure the machine plus the rack, tray and crisping pan. A combo can save one plug while adding loose pieces.
Cleaning changes by mode
Microwave splatter, baked-on convection grease and an air-fry tray create different cleaning jobs inside the same cavity.
One box cannot cook two foods at once
A separate microwave and air fryer can operate simultaneously. A combo serializes those jobs even when it saves space.
Use only the accessories allowed for the selected mode
Metal racks and pans that belong in convection or combination modes may be unsafe in microwave-only use. Follow the exact model manual rather than transferring rules from another combo.
